Our produce gardens are one part of a much bigger growing farmstead. While we grow annual vegetables each season, much of our work at Horton Bay Heritage Farm is focused on establishing perennial foods and productive plantings that will feed the farm for years to come.
We've been busy putting down roots—fruit trees, berries, grapes, perennial vegetables, herbs, productive hedgerows and the beginnings of our food forest. Many of these crops take a few good years to establish, and we're building them with the long game in mind.
As the gardens begin producing, we harvest fresh vegetables, garlic and greens for our small farm stand. Produce is available during regular farm hours as crops are ready, with selection changing throughout the season and sometimes from one day to the next.
When the gardens are producing in abundance, we may also open select crops for pick-your-own. Follow us on social media for harvest updates and pick-your-own announcements.
Our small farm stand is stocked with farm-grown produce during regular farm hours as crops are harvested. Selection changes with the season, so follow us on social media for harvest updates and occasional pick-your-own opportunities.
Our annual produce gardens change from season to season, but you can expect us to grow a mix of familiar garden favorites such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, garlic and fresh greens. Alongside our annual gardens, we're busy establishing perennial foods throughout the farm—berries, grapes, fruit trees, perennial vegetables, herbs and other edible crops that will grow and produce for years to come.
Many of these perennial plantings take a few good Northern Michigan growing seasons to really come into their own. We're playing the long game with them, building a more diverse and productive farm that we hope will feed people for many years.
Our goal is to eventually offer a changing mix of fresh annual and perennial foods through the Glorie Be Farm Store—from summer vegetables and fresh greens to berries, fruit, garlic, herbs and whatever else the farm is ready to share.
We're also building the Glorie Be to be more than an outlet for what we grow ourselves. As the farm store takes shape, we hope to work with other Northern Michigan growers and producers to offer more locally grown and locally made foods alongside our own farm harvests.
